Jan 4th Went to Ligneural to interview Count de Shabeaux however he had left for the West coast - then to Beaufort & back in the afternoon I motored with Mr Webb to Avenes - Le Compli & had tea with Major Martin & Capt Thomas & Lieu Jackson R.E. Bought an apron for Jessie also a small something for little boy Thompson . Had a letter from Jessie. Received two pairs of leggings from T.H.Beard & Sons.

Jan 5th Went to Liencourt to meet the C.O. regarding billets also private interview (Complimentary) & told me I may possibly move nearer the front line & take over Command of C. Coy. Went to Frevent in car with Webb & saw Higgens (Capt/President of Presles Gerard got back at 10:30 P.M. A fair day.
