the bunch I came with often ask me things that they should know I am as ignorant of as themselfs I am writing this in what I truly belive is the most nerve disturbing place in Victoria & as I paid a 1$ a month for the use of this place as a quiet place to read my drill books I am somewhat disgusted. It is the reading & writing from of the YMCA up town & is full all the time of ill manered youths about 16 years old who are passing through it on their way to the Gim & the Baths in conection.

I see by the Observer that the second batch of requits from Cariboo received a great welcome & the paper in some way seems to think it was C Kepner who was the cause. The cause was the first batch of recuits from Cariboo who by thier behaviour had at that time won good oppinions & the reason of it was that I proposed the reception to our C. Ser. Magor who was only to pleased to cary out his part. My part was to arange with the Liute. for an early arival in camp & to get the Carriboo bunch out near the gate & with the aid of a few patriots from the old country raise the curosity of the rest of the batt. so that nearly all were out to see them march in. Then the Co Ser Mgr sent for the full band instead of one piper who
