my dear Dodie Leighton enjoyed your letter so much.Father Fleming tells me he heard from you. He is very fit. All of us are. The younger officers are doing excellent work Lindsay, Tupper & [?] . It is pretty hard and important work they have at times. They sure are all cheery & keen . We have lost some good ones but" est la guerre" [?]. Now we are out of the trenches for a 4 day rest and are in billets close by within rifle range & the shells fall unpleasantly close by day

I enjoyed your letter so much. Father Fleming tells me he heard from you. He is very fit. All of us are. The younger officers are doing excellent work Lindsay, Tupper & Maclean. It is pretty hard and important work they have at times. They sure are all cheery & keen. We have lost some good ones but " c'est la guerre". Just now we are out of the trenches for a 4 day rest and are in billets close by - within rifle range & the shells fall unpleasantly close by day
