+ after reporting to RTO + draw'g 2 days rations went out + cleaned up.  Some rain in night.  Canon Jocelyn Perkins conducted us thro Rouen Cathedral, Palais de Justice, Salle de Pas Perdus, Memorial to La Pucelle + the Gros Horlage + many o'r places all of extreme interest.  Rouen restaurant robbers.  Left again about 5.  Extremely hot but o'wise fairly comfortable.

Frid Aug 11  Engine derailed in night but little damage.  Gave us a long stop + good rest.  Much cooler.  Arr'd Etaples 11 am.  No wash + very dirty.  Etaples big camp - Austr'ns NL Imperial.  Sand dunes river mouth.  Boulogne big works.  Calais very flat.  Canteen + blessed tea.  County all flat + watery.  Fine crops of all kinds being harvested by hand.  Hazebrouck 5 pm.  Getting fed up.  Arr'd at Poperinghe + drove up to headquarters in a London bus by the light of the moon + [illegible] shells in the distance.  Cannonading not heavy.  Met by Charlie Pooley who is 1/4master + most hospitable.  An excellent night.  Wrote to LC.
