Arr'd Etaples 11 am. No wash & very dirty. Etaples big camp - Austr'ns NL Imperial. Sand dunes river mouth. Boulogne big works. Calais very flat. Canteen & blessed tea. County all flat & watery. Fine crops of all kinds being harvested by hand. Hazebrouck 5 pm. Getting fed up. Arr'd at Poperinghe & drove up to headquarters in a London bus by the light of the moon & star shells in the distance. Cannonading not heavy. Met by Charlie Pooley who is ¼master & most hospitable. An excellent night. Wrote to LC. |
