apparently quite reckless know how to take care of themselves. They are indeed magnificent fellows & wonderfully cheerful considering that they have been in the trenches practically for 11 months without leave.

In that time they have been through some of the most desperate affairs & of course have lost many of their member. It has been beautiful weather but tonight there has been a shower of rain which has made a lot of slippery mud.

When we get out we shall enjoy the quiet days & nights which we expect to get some day. It is a marvellous sight to see a night bombardment. Suddenly the darkness is split all round with sheets of flame from the batteries & bursting shells
