They keep impressing upon us the necessity of squeezing our all into 35 lbs but fortunately I don't have to pay much attention to that.  If I can only get a horse of my own then I shall feel like a real soldier.  A good ride in daylight is a great pleasure.

It is a very difficult thing to carry out the duties of an Adjutant when one is only a sub.  To strafe a Major effectively + without raising ill feeling is not so easy.  Fortunately we have only one Major + he is about the best officer off Hqrs that we have.  A Scotchman + a gentleman.

To revert to elections - of course it seems incredible to us that there should be any Canadians with so little pride in their army and with so little self respect that they can face the prospect of what must follow if conscription is not enforced as a real thing.  Unfortunately soldiers in the field can't say much about this.  Well all the best of good things to you this coming year.
