It is a great drawback to be married if one is going in for this game.  They will not give one many opportunities and one is really bound to save one's skin if possible however degrading it may feel.  No more than 6% of our officers are married + with the exception of the CO + 2 L/C the married ones are rarely in the trenches.

The weather is lovely + is not too hot.  They tell me that our chaps in the line are picking heaps of currants + gooseberries + gathering quantities of roses + that they have good house billets.  As a matter of fact that is not so pleasant as it sounds + is a source of extra anxiety to the staff + co commanders.  Yesterday I went for a ride with Joe Bridgman.  While we were eating an omelet at an estaminet we saw his horse dash past the window having slipped his halter.  On going out we found
