Dear Lindley

If you see a wonderfully good publication called Canadian War Pictorial and will look at the last page of the first number you will see a picture called "Battalion Headquarters". That was the HQ of our Bn when the front line was at St. Eloi. it looks peaceful & pleasant but it was severely shelled and while I was there we had some fatal casualties at that spot. If you saw the surrounding country you would hardly believe that such a pleasant looking place could exist. That sketch of a sandbag dugout that I sent you was of our Co. H.Q. & reserve when Bn H.Q. was at this spot. I am going to have these serials sent out to [?] for preservation for they will be of interest to those who survive.

My leave is again drawing near, in fact as things are today I am the next but the pendulum keeps swinging backwards & forwards leaving one in great uncertainty.

My leave is again drawing near, in fact as things are today I am the next but the pendulum keeps swinging backwards & forwards leaving one in great uncertainty.
