Co (Left Co) in wh I became interested attacked on the left. It was rather a desperate piece of work but was carried out with extraordinary dash & determination.

Of course there were many casualties for the artillery, M.G. rifle fire was hot. Quite early in the day & before the attack began I had 5 minutes notice to get up to the front line from where I am writing now & report. The hip in in daylight was safely accomplished though I was momentarily exhausted when H.Q. was reached. After some delay I was told to report after dark to Left. Co. in the captured German trench. This I did when a guide cd be found & then I found that the
