On my arrival in England I went straight to London where I stayed just long enough to do what shopping was required to fill the needs of myself and the other officers in the squadron – including a dozen records for the squadron gramophone – and then fled to Pontefract. The trip up was a revelation to me as to the beauty of England. Everything was a bright, fresh green and the wild flowers were coming out in great style. It looked so different after the murky winter drab I had seen before. It gave me that "spring-is-coming" feeling, and made me long to be in Victoria. I couldn't help thinking of Beacon Hill with its yellow cloak at this time of year. Arrived there, Mrs. Blomfield, Muriel, Tommy, Ted and "the baby" met me at the station and Tommy took my bag to the
