A; - You mean from where the car went in?
Q; - Yes, A; - From the water, about twenty feet.
Q; - Then the elevation you come up on the south is about ten feet? A; - I don't think so.
Q; - The reason that I asked you, this car is a big car, is a car that would weigh four thousand pounds; it had twelve passengers in it which is a very heavy load, now I am instructed that this car was in high gear when it struck the top of the bridge?
A; - He approached very quickly along that road.
Q; - Where did you first notice the car?
A; - On the south side of the bridge.
Q; - You say you noticed the car all that distance?
A; - Yes.
Q; - When did you shout to the driver? A; - When he was about a hundred and eighty feet from the draw.
Q; - Then he was about sixty feet from the gate; that is, ninety feet from the center of the span to the end of the span? isn't it? That was the measurement Mr Cowan had? isn't it Mr Dodson?
A; - Beg pardon?
Q; - It is about ninety feet where you get on the bridge from the center of the span to the end of the draw?
A; - I don't know the position at the time. I measured from where the car went down to where I shouted to him is about a hundred and eighty feet.
Q; - What made you wave you lantern at him?
A; - That's the only thing I could do.
Q; - A year ago there was an accident on that bridge?
A; - I do not know what particular time.
Q; - The truck saved itself from coming over the side; the end gate they moved it a piece; the position of the gate was changed.
Q; - As a result of that accident the gates were moved back ten feet? A; - Yes.
