By Mr. [Potts?] :- Did you assist in the rescue of the miners in No 6 mine? a: The latter part of the evening I did.

J: What time? a: about ten o clock.

J: Did you make any search in the mine? a: No, I made no search.

J. What did you do? a: I went there to help to get the bodies and to do what I could, but I found everything was [arranged?] and buried before I got there.

J: Did you go to the second South Level? a: I went up to where the [??] was found dead.

J: Do you know where the explosion occurred?

a: I didn't exactly know [??] where the greatest heat was from the explosion.

J: Where was that? a: about No 6; that is where the greatest heat was.

J: Did you find anything in that neighbourhood which would have caused the explosion?

a No

J: any pit lamps? a. No

J: Safety lamps? a: Yes

J: Whereabouts? a: Lying on the places as you walked along.

J: Were any of them opened? a: No, all securely locked. I tried several of them, and all that I tried were locked.

J: Did you see any matches about? a: No.

J: are you able to form any a person as to the cause of the explosion? a: I could form an opinion, but I couldn't say that it would be [??]. The place between five [??] No 6 there was some gas coming of that shale at that time.

J. Did you make an examination? a: Not much of an examination, I could see the break was giving on.

J: How was the ventilation? a: good
