− | Edward Macdonald sworn. I live in Victoria and am a steamboat deck hand. I was a deck hand on the steamer Enterprise at the time of the collision on Tuesday in last week. I was in the forward room on the starboard side in the lower hold, sitting in my bunk reading. The Chinamen were in the after room on the port side in the lower hold. Both rooms are abaft ? the paddle wheels. No passengers have any right in that part of the vessel. The cook's room, in which the Chinamen were, was about ten feet from mine. I heard the Rithet's whistle, and the Enterprise answer it. About two or three minutes afterwards I heard the slow bell of our engine and about a minute afterwards the "stop" bell.
