W.L. Ogilby. Essex; one man shoots a ptarmigan with a six shooter or revolver we also get lots of white heather reminding one after days spent in the Highlands of Scotland.

July 6th. No passes ahead so have to go back and try a new way round, some after packers who are packing provisions, it is most annoying going back. Always like to be going ahead.

July 7th. Some of us go packing others explore for some way getting ahead the country seems nothing but one mass of mountains all jumbled up any way, it seems nearly impossible to get our grub on these high places 7000 ft is no joke packing on. However we'll hope for the best.

July 8th. Today we pack up to Cruikshank valley and go due E for 4 miles hoping to find Buttles lake which is what we are trying to locate
