Loss of "Hampshire" off the Orkneys - Lord Kitchener death confirmed - only 12 survived.

Working away with the observers - plane table resection with Jenkinson, Wheatley & Baynes to spend the evening at Currie's

Corp. Horace G.K. Campbell killed in action today 29th (Vancouver) Bn - side blown out by shell at Ypres. Buried at Reninghelst. Photo taken in Scotland 4th June - he returning to France June 15th.

Go out on dyke resecting and nearly get caught in heavy thunderstorm. Reckon I am as hard-worked as sub. as there is in the British Army.

Out with observers' class all morning - resecting & laying out lines of fire. Walk to New Romney & Littlestone with Creery - continual succession of thunder storms. Romney church 1100 ad. - 3' below present street level - tidal wave.

Brigade orderly officer - take working party from 122, 124 & 133 Blg & dig 220' trench in the shingle - having bad time with my head.
