Sir Roger Casement
Fanatical Irish Nationalist, he opposed the participation in the Great War, hoped to use the war to win independence for Ireland. Visited Germany in 1914, and attempted to form a brigade of Irish prisoners. April 12, 1916, sailed for Ireland in German submarine. Captured, tried for treason, executed.
