12 February (7 to 9) 7 Monday (38-328) 2nd March 1916 On duty today- usual routine- Send test message to 'All Batteries' - "Destroyer approaching from NNW Observe" F.C. per FCS. Walk around sentry groups & to Dale with Lt. James. Finish Vol. 1 "Anna Karenina". Talk with Walker over phone. Fine blustery day, with heavy sea pounding below.

8 Tuesday (39-327)

Half Quarter Day Go with Thornton to Dale Fort and West to Blockhouse - Capt. Forbes promised to try and get me in new Siege Battery forming for France. Walk to St. Brides in afternoon - Very pretty hamlet with a deep cove - Hauled up on road by Infantry Colonel, who invites me to his mess.

9 Wednesday (40-326)

On Duty, but relieved by Thornton for three hours in afternoon. Walk to Dale with M.O. Stackrock, who is from Victoria, BC. Telephonist comes in with rumour of naval engagement in the North Sea.
