5 1916 31 Days 13 Thursday [13-353] [13-16] January am Written Exam. in "Siege" - do very well but have not time enough pm "Vol. III - Mechanics - Dont do so well. Cant settle down to study, so go with Walker, Warring et al to "the Idlers" - a rattling good show. Return to the [11less?] & undergo several whiskies & sodas - REECE (Bomb Officer) - a most devil-may-care type Volunteers for Trench mortarsasked for 14 Friday [14 352] Oxford Lent Term begins Flutter in the dovecote as six of [ms] may be shipped to France for Trench Mortars - "Elementary" moving ordnonce under Maj. Vereker in am - I have to take [5] ton gun off rollers & place it on skidding. pm. Siege exam - do well - "A Beckett orders "with lever 1st order in the breech prepare to raise the muzzle. Sent 2 snapshots to Berthe Leprevost Wrote Young - Thanks Xmas p.c-i to Lynge. Berthe, Flore, Marie Olivier & Morgan.

15 Saturday [15-351]

Send Ada "BC Correct Form & Battery Ranging Sheet for a souvenir of the course. Examination Results given out - I rank 9 in Class of 14 140 mrks out of 200 "Very Good" for Practical Siege. Regimental Orderly Officer - Maj. Vereker puts us thru a rush job of moving ordnance. Poor a'Beckett only 65 marks. I get Armament Pay.

16 SUN - 2 aft Epiph [16-350]

Mahony, Walker, Keys & I go on Duty Boat to South Hook Fort. - Maj. Gordon entertaining two very doubtful girls at mess & is pretty exhilarated - Mahony & I clear out to our quarters in the M.G.'s House.
