opy Headquarters, 3rd. Canadian Inf. Bde, October 21st. 1915. This is to certify that Sergt. F. C. SWANNELL was employed on the staff of the 3rd. Canadian Infantry Brigade, for the purpose of Trench Surveying and mapping. The work that he accomplished was accurately done and has been of the greatest value to the Brigade. His experience as Dominion and Provincial Land Surveyor in which topographical work played an important part, especially fitted him for the position which he has been employed. I understand that he is applying for a commission, and I should have greatest pleasure in reccommending him for such, especially in a branch of the service where advantage could be taken of his ability in surveying and drraghting. (signed) R.G. E. Leckie. Brig-General, 3rd. Canadian Infantry Brigade.
