News about Ada - things have not been easy at home - my pay is quite inadequate to keep things going and Ada has had to raise money on a mortgage. My father has been most unbearable in my absence - he has not the smallest speck of gratitude in him being given a comfortable home in his old age and contributes nothing although he has money - altogether Ada has had a handful. Our Scotch girl, however, has acted splendidly - voluntarily asked for a reduction of salary when I enlisted. Then too everybody - mere acquaintances even - have been so kind to Ada. My partners insist on giving me a full share of the profits this year although they are not earning a quarter as much as formerly so that we shall pull through this war. Although it will give me a ten year's set-back. If i am given a commission in the Canadian, instead of the Imperial service, I will not be so bad off financially. If I get killed Ada will be fairly well fixed as I am insured for $8,000.

Ada writes she has received an announcement of Hilda's wedding
