Reducing to uniform scale certain sketches of fortified places - Raining nearly all day - The trenches must be liquid mud + the men chilled to the bone - I am getting more and more disconted with the easy living here. Paid 50 fr. + receive provisional Pay Book. Went in Orders as Sergt Sept 23rd. Baxter tells me the German aeroplane brought down on the 26th nearly fell into Leckie Ave. - Bounced + turned over 2 or 3 times - The Germans fired about 30 shrapnel at it, hoping to destroy it, but only hit close 3 times - The wonder is the German Flight Lieutenant was not killed in the fall or by his own sides shrapnel.
