Sunday July 24th Surveying trenches - get sniped at while passing Chateau Road - Sentries very suspicious Supercilious staff major 1st Bde very sniffy - Privates shouldn't be given a job they are ignorant of - etc - combat of aeroplanes & our artillery open fire 8 30 pm - artillery duel of half an hour - several men hit -

Complete survey today finishing up at Ash House. Baxter, my assistant is 48, was Resident P.W.Engineer at Prince Rupert - has been on Engineering work all over the world - very quiet - an Aberdonian
