Tuesday July 12th

Spend day on Hunters Ave, in big dugouts which leak badly - rain all night - - On guard 1-3 am - German lines 250 yds & bullets constantly zipping threw the foliage - Catch the new machine gun officer vainly hunting for his command which at daybreak we find at Moat farm.

Wednesday July 13th 14th back

Today we are moved down to the old firing line - little forts with steel-loop hole plates - Kitten crossed my loophole while I was told off to locale German snipers by watching for the flash of their rifles.

Small dirty dugout here and flies galore all day - (Anscomb - a boy from a Victoria bank shares one corner (He is badly wounded with the shell that kills Court early in September)
