Told off to machine gun section for "Instructional purposes" - taking Colt machine gun to pieces - to Bethune for a bath - some good shops. Buy souvenir "La picca de soixante -quinze" etc. Mme Dubois, Boulangerie- refugiee from 6 km of LaBassee - left home the day before the British answer

Still with the machine gun section - grand dinner - Bush, Bateman, Cpl. Morley & Sgt. Maj. Forbes - Mme Dubois shows me a letter she is writing to Ada. Volunteer for "Royal Engineers" as the extra pay is needed at home.

Machine gun drill in the morning. served out khaki kilts & spent afternoon getting them fixed.

Mme. Rosaline Libessart wants to write Minnie - this girl goodlooking, vivacious - free, easy in fact - poor type - lower town class - get acquainted thru the shoemaker. bringing "Tuck" & I in to treat us with beer & coffee - the latter served in a glass
