March to observatory topped hill ⅞ mile from Newington. Posted with 5 other practising concealment, judging distances. March to Sandgate & paddle in sea, icy cold. Notice on barroom notice "No ladies served after 6 pm".

Route march. Heavy order of about 17 miles to Elham, old church 13th cent. Territorials quartered in old timbered framed building with huge fireplace 1614. Cole put under arrest for insolence to Milburn on parade. Asst. mess orderly.

Zeppelin raid on Kentish coast.

Wrote E.C. Elliott , mailed "Canada" RMS.

"Court martial & sudden death" Guiney's summary of the Army regulations read us today. Quarantined for measles. Whole Battalion. Mess orderly. Wrote Ada.
