15 men, 6 different corps in trip to Thorncliffe, sit next E. Surrey man 6 mos enlisted, never fired a rifle. R.H. using French gun model 1878.

Bad all day on account of inoculation. Route march, feet inspection& usual wretched afternoon at squad drill render non-coms. Very bad night with my arm.

Elder Castle liner sunk by submarine with large loss of life.

Route march to top of down & practice advancing by sections. Medical examination & alphabetical agony waiting for 'S'. Weight stripped 163, bayonet drill.

Write Ada & send "Great West" agent application form for 2d "Sunlife " policy.

Usual route march & open order tactics, sent out with Battalion scouts. Bayonet drill & clip loading. Two more British ships sunk by submarine.
