Aug 24. Took the anonymous letter, recieved yesterday, to the Criminal Police in a.m. Was told by Herr Schoenfeld of the "Salonblatt" that the editor of the "Neuste Nachrichten" wanted some new caricatures for His paper. Went & saw Herr Wolf, a Jew, editor of the "N.N." who, not knowing my nationality, said he wanted some caricatures ['gauz Starke grgau die Englander, Franzoser and Russen". Sent my resignation from the Vestry of the American Church to Mr. Welwood.

Aug 25. A detective who looked like a cross between a pig and a bull dog came to interview me
