Dear Father :
Well, I have seen old Burt. Went up to the Canadian front August 29th. and stayed six days -- they kindly extended my pass by wire from London -- most passes read four days.
He is looking fitter than I remember to have seen him in years. And from all I saw -- and my eyes are usually open, he not only does two men's work up there, but occupies a unique position in the regiment. I mean that all the officers accord him a status that the rank of captain could never command; that's the result of the old boy's personality.
