FOR GOD FOR KING AND FOR COUNTRY

CANADA Y.M.C.A.

WITH THE CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE ON ACTIVE SERVICE

2/

So far I have been quite bussy seeing old friends & some new ones.

Armstrong J Peterson & I proposed to go to see Mrs McPhee & family A. talked with her over the phon & said we proposed to come up. But got no little encouragement that we did not go. I understand visitors are never welcome at that house. Seems strange. I have not been to Victoria but intend to try & go next week if I can get a pass. So far I have not been able to get any pay or transportation. I was offered a 6 days pass to Cariboo but said it was no good. I dont see much sense in coming up the road unless I am free to stay there. Needless waste of my time & the Govt cash. I see so many men here not at work that I dont feel quite as keen to go to work on a farm (for the good of the cause) as I did. There are many strangers at work here at good wages & many returned men idle (some wont work but there are some good men idle) J. Hamilton ½ breed 150 MH is here 6.50 per day, not a Hamilton joined up as far as I know
