I am writing you for two reasons first to tell you how much we respected and liked your son (Bert) which is also my nic-name.) I hated to part with Bert - when they left our place en-route for Vancouver in the fall and kissed him Good Bye at Winnipeg with my best wishes for a safe return along with my own dear brother (who was 27 yrs. of age last Oct.) I am older than Hilton and my sister is just eighteen yrs & working in an office in Regina, so you see poor Mother's family of three are very much scattered. Father feels these things keenly but you know men do not show their feelings like we do.

My other reason for writing you is to ask if it would be possible for me to have a photo of Bert? he did not expect to see me in Winnipeg & did not have more than the one photo with him which he gave to my mother, you do not know how she appreciated his thinking of her, but I would love to have one of my very own of his taken in uniform. these had been taken in Vancouver.

During Bert's stay with us I never once heard him say an unkind word nor say anything objectionable & Mrs Allison your son

The Dales of West Summerland are relations of ours, do you know them? If you can spare Bert's photo I would be so pleased to get one
