My dear Dodie: Your letter of November 12th came this morning (Jan'y 29th) and oh it did please me so very much!
Your mention of my Pater's health is the first news I have had about him for a very long time. For the past few months I know I felt something was wrong with him & it has worried me more than if they had written at home about it all. Dodie isn't it silly of them to try to keep things away from me? Do they imagine that I am a milk fed invalid incapable of standing depressing news. They seem to forget that one actually wants and even likes to share something that worries others. Do they prefer to leave me worry about myself? Few people in this world don't worry but I am not one of them thank God. What in Hades have I to occupy my mind but to think & worry about the ones I love & like? Dodie please on receipt of this go up & shake them up & remind them that I am not as ancient as they seem to think.
I expected as far back as two months ago to be in a position other than I am at the present time hence my total disregard of greetings for the new year but try to understand won't you? My family will think goodness only knows what of me. I wish you everything wonderful that you could want for. Thank you again & again Dodie for your splendid letter & for all you said in it.
