the only distraction I have, & I quietly manage their fighting spirit all I can.

I've just sent in a fourth application to be tranferred from my [illegible] unsatisfactory position to an English. Better at the Front, Officer C react to my blooming [illegible] they like. If nothing come of that, I shan't worry any more. I'm absolutely fed up to the back teeth with everything. The last 3 years have been absolutely wicked. In fact, I've [illegible]. If I'm in hell then why the hell don't they say so , of course we not - I really think the first Europe I meet, I'll hit him in the jaw.. That'll create a diversion & break this wretched monotony.

I didn't join the mlty only to be a Foreman of a gang of labourers, but to do a little fighting.

So you've been the good old giddy butterfly again, flitting hither, tither, sipping ([illegible] taking a dine of a bg swig) at the joys of pleasures of life - notwithstanding all my jolly old advice to the contrary.

I'm very sorry to hear your father has not had much success, but never mind I hear that Vancouver is more or less getting on its feet again, & probably by now he is doing very much better - anyhow I really hope so. How is his health & how is your mother. and now to ask about you, as you appear to be in the "pink". I don't know that's quite the way you seem to be managing after this bloke you say you are falling in love with. I have an idea you are in love with
