My Dear Dodie

Your letter was handed to me by the mail Dept. as we were marching through Albert on our way into the line and I dont think I have ever enjoyed a letter so much in my life. I have always been told that no one could hold a candle to you for a good letter and that one must have been one of the best. If you only half guessed how a letter like that can buck a chap up. I wish I could find words to explain it.

I have had the most wonderful luck I managed to get what we call a perfect Blighty. That is a flesh wound (mine happens to be across the shoulder blade)
