My dear Dodie
I am frightfully sorry that I misunderstood your letter, please try and forgive me. I hate to think that I have made you feel miserable, but at the same time it made me feel rather glad as it showed me that you valued my friendship. I started off on my job without getting your reply, I never realized it took so long, and I must admit I did not very much care what happened to me, except for the crew and the boat. I got your letter last night when I came back and it was a great joy to me. I think it must have come just after we left, the irony of fate. I am afraid that you will not get this until long after Xmas.
You offer to write often to me, I wish that you would, I love your letter, they are always to cheerful and
