My dear Dodie

You have no idea what a treat it was to get your letter, I am looking forward to the snap shots immensely. Your conclusion that had contracted a war marriage is quite wrong. I am still a mouldy old bachelor. You will see that I have changed my boat for another one in a more exciting area. I hope to be going off on a trip of my own very soon for about a month and am looking forward to finding your photographs as a reward on my return. You can have no idea what an absolute hell our soldiers are going through out here, they are wonderful. All those who have been to France say it that they would look upon it as a good [illegible] to get back there again. I think that the plan must be the flies must be the worst thing that they have, they are awful even out in the ships, as I know to my cost. They are spreading such a lot of diseases about, it is awful to see the way they swarm on the unfortunate wounded who are too weak to drive them off. I am afraid it looks a very
