are very high, looking forward with great zest for the time when we shall be allowed to move. The retirement of the Germans on our old front is also a good sign. By reason of it the town of Pys whose church tower was our great landmark on the Somme has at last fallen into our hands.

Also the very formidable Butte de Warlencourt which with Eaucourt L'Abbeye (already taken) were the two worst places ahead of us at that time. The retreat of the Germans made in accordance with the rules of tactics is far enough to compel us to move our big guns before making
