to go back to Camp Borden ingloriously in a motor car, none the worse for my experience. When I got back I reported to the Captain and he asked me if I had learned anything from my experience. I told him I had learned that one cannot be too careful in a strange field and that I had gained confidence in my flying in making a successful forced landing. "That's good," he said. "I don't give a damn about the machine if you will only learn something from your mistakes." And the machines cost $7500 each, while I did well over $2000 damage to that one! I am enclosing a snap of myself and one of a gathering of curious sightseers at Aurora before I attempted to ascend the next day.
