No. 7 March 20, 1918
Dearest Mother: -
A few days ago I wrote you saying how the good weather brought us so much work that it was tiring us out. The next day the weather broke and we had a day of rest which did us no end of good.
As I suppose you know by this time the Hun has begun the push. Everyone seems confidant we can hold him and I sincerely hope so for I think it is a move of sheer desperation - his last hope. If that hope is shattered it will surely mean a speedy closing of the war. By Jove it would be wonderful to out of this blessed wrangle with no war nor rumours of war to worry over for a few years at any rate. I am well fed-up with it all
