With the exception of a slight shower durung the evening which helped to lay the dust. Monday 26th. A beautiful day. Started for New York by the 5.30 train from Niagara . Tuesday 27th. Arrive at Jersey City by the 11 A.M. train. Were taken to the Taylor's Hotel much to our disgust, Mr.Patten messenger happening to miss us, or we should have gone to New York. Mr. Patten has been very kind. We took our passages in the R.M.S. "Java" and are to start tomorrow for England. We went out shopping Stuart& Co. have a magnificent shop anything in the shape of dress you can get there. Weather very warm, mosquitos rather troublesome. Wednesday 28th. Started for England this afternoon at 1 P.M. in the "Java" one of the Cunard line a most comfortable ship. There are not many passengers on board. Thursday 29th. Began to feel very sick this afternoon was obliged to leave the dinner table. Friday 30th. Too ill to write very much. I was compelled to get up this morning , though I had much rather stays in bed. The captain's name is Martyn & the doctor's is Hassard . Saturday 31st. The ship's rolling &n pitching
