[?] make much headway so have to fall back to the oars once more; we get to camp about 6 p.m. with the "Bonnie Doone" " Marguerite" and the scow. Oct 1st. Raining and very stormy on lake so remain around camp all day getting things together for an early start tomorrow. Oct 2nd. Load the boats directly after breakfast and start off with the scow ahead with one axeman and three packers in; twenty minutes later the Marguerite with the chainmen ; surveyor & two others in, is launched and then an exciting race comes off; at the first point ( called one hour point) we are [?] up with each other ; then the fleet Marguerite obeys her oars and away we go arriving down at Union at 12 p.m. ; at i p.m. the scow discharges her cargo; at 2:30 the "Bonnie Doone" lands her
