Sept 3rd. Go over Divide for grub get mail from packers. I am lucky enough to get letters & papers from home also photo of my little niece; a bear was shot up a tree two days ago by packers at Comox lake.

Sept 4th. Today wet, wet we have a general hair cutting match everyone in camp get his hair cut & shaved or whiskers trimmed;

Sept 5th. Start for packs; rains hard all the way home; a nasty cold rain making us feel very miserable and grumpy; if any one jokes it is taken as an insult by the one the jest is on and he very much wants to punch his jester's head.

Sept 6th. No packs today so staying in camp drying our wet clothes before big log fires.

Sept 7th. Go to Buttles lake with grub get stung by hornets; but fix the sting by putting wet tobacco
