after a tiring day we arrive back at camp at 4 p.m. to a good supper & have some songs in the evening.

July 9th. Move camp and get everything fixed up comfortably by 3 p.m. we make good fires in front of the tents and go out for a deer but fail to meet our desired prey.

July 10th. Resting and reading [illegible] and papers; a man came in last night with the mail

July 11th. Raining hard all day; consequently remain in camp; good natured cook has to be in all weather (rain or shine) and does murmur although some of the others growl like bear if asked to go out at all in the rain.

July 12th. Raining still; we are getting very restless and try different ways of amusing ourselves with puzzles and riddles one man puzzles his head all day
