July 4th. Pack up to top of "Divide" (dividing the water one stream flowing South other North). Where we camp at 8 p.m. among rock as level place at all for the tents make our our beds as best we can; very cold up here as we are now 6500 ft above sea level and getting above the timber line, consequently fire wood is very scarce.

July 5th. Most of hands are exploring for passes thro the mountains; the two chain men go on their own look up a high mountain and write their names on the mount nearly 7000 ft up the two bears the words G.C. and Tipperary
