VI.

As it is 3 p.m. And about two hours work to descend into the valley we conclude after taking in the lovely view to go back and see what our cook has got to eat

April 5th Today we pack up our baggage and camp at noon at bluff. This is a dull miserable day so orders are given for chainers to rechain last half mile, the rest to fix up camp and get good cheerful fires going

April 6th Early in the morning we offset from line some 10 chains to right of line and try to get down below. The chainiers have to keep tight hold of every little twig within sight. Alas one slip and a small stone is started which goes crashing down the hill catching one of the axemen in the ribs which completely lays him up for several days: about half way down we see we can't possibly make any further progress. So have to abandon it at
