April 1st Finds us making fools of ourselves by going over a rough country to work: doing over a mile the first day. Nothing of any interest occurred today.

April 2nd Today we move our camp about one mile up a valley: afterwards as soon as tents are pitched and dinner has been devoured we do some more work on our survey line: the packers are ordered to take grub ahead so as to be ready for us the next day: very fatigued we approach camp about sundown, eagerly devour the necessities of life. Then tumble into the blankets where we smoke and finally drop into a profound sleep. Our bill of fare on a survey party consists of

Breakfast 6 a.m. Musch or oatmeal with milk and sugar Fried bacon, bread and butter Applesauce. Coffee
