Saturday October 16th 1915

Get a run down to Steenwerch in a motor lorry - call at the P.O. & the Chieux' - word received that Sergt. Henri Chieux has a turn for the better- Mme produces a bottle of vin blanc in honour of the news. My night 'on' until 10 o clock tonight- have been plotting contours in my sleep for three nights now. Enemy generally very quiet - slight shelling and bombing. Enemy defences - advantage being taken of foggy weather to repair their front line. 4 men of 5th Bavarian Regiment 4th Div. captured near Hulluck Servian Front - Total forces identified on Servian front are 8 German & 4 Austrian Divisions. German military newspaper "Parole" tells its readers the British forces in France & Belgium are 600-700,000of which 300, 000 are British
