Saturday - Sept 11th 1915

Plotting 1/2500 map. Spent German bullet strikes a policeman at Headquarters here - beds in his pattee & merely bruises him. get object lesson on how commissions are obtained - Gen. LecHie sees candidate from 16th - Colonel does not recommend but quite willing to grant the man his discharge - very willing! - Cog. officer states - This man formerly was lance-corporal - was reduced to the ranks for incompetency - therefore I cannot recommend him - Gen. Lechie writes Bio - I have seen the man and endorse the opinion of his Cog. officer as to his non-suitability - Hear later that this man's commission is being engineered from Canada and he will probably get it in the face of Gen. LecHies turning him down cold.
