Friday July 8th

Third night on working party. - Setting out barbwire entaglements - Trip wire pattern - Run out of stakes & so get in early - 1 am. Tremendous rattle of musketry & Tut-tut of machine guns to the right - German flares continuous - but we are hidden in long grass. left for [illegible] See postcard - has the scene down almost exactly.

Saturday July 9th/15

Get fine example of spread of a rumor. "From 13th Officers, don't shoot or cheer - the Dardanelles have been forced - Pass it on."
