Jan 5th 1919.

My dear Father

Your welcome letter of Dec 6th written from San Jose reached me tonight, also the Xmas number of "Life" which Mother so kindly sent. It seems a good number and will be much enjoyed, have only had a hurried look at it so far.

I have been much interested in letters, from both of you, hearing of your adventures in Cal; taking it on the whole you both seem to be having a fair time of it in a quiet way. I hope you're not trying both of you to cut down expenses too much, have a "fling" while you're at it, for goodness sakes and be d--d to the expense, we can always turn a penny on part of Grouse Nest if we get hard up!
