go & "Botch" things at Home by having peace before he is thoroughly flattened out, we will undoubtedly attain what we set out to do (i.e. crush Prussian militarism. It would be a nice sort of thing to let him have an armistice while we talked things over , & incidentally while he dug himself in again, & fortified new positions which undoubtedly was his little scheme. We had quite a time keeping up with the advance the last few days, his retreat was so rapid we had a good deal of [?] marching to do. It is splendid that we have got control of the whole of the Belgian coast
